The Making of Bite: Book 2 – Part 1

The illustration journey begins…

Every children’s book starts with an idea.

Then comes the planning, the writing, the editing… and finally, one of my favourite stages of all—the illustrations.

I’m incredibly excited to share that the illustration process for Bite the Shark’s second adventure has officially begun.

Although the manuscript has been finished for some time, there’s something magical about seeing rough storyboard sketches gradually transform into the beautiful artwork that children will eventually enjoy. It’s the moment when the story truly begins to come alive.

Over the coming weeks and months I’ll be sharing occasional behind-the-scenes updates as Book 2 develops. From storyboards and sketches to character designs and finished illustrations, I’d love to give you a glimpse into the creative journey.

Don’t worry though—I promise there won’t be any spoilers! Half the fun is discovering the adventure for yourself when the book is finally published.

Creating the Bite series has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. My hope has always been to create stories that entertain children while gently encouraging confidence, kindness, resilience and healthy choices.

None of this would be possible without the wonderfully talented illustrator, Monika Dzikowicz, whose creativity and attention to detail are helping bring the next Bite adventure to life. I’m incredibly grateful to be working with her once again.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Bite so far—whether you’ve bought a book, shared it with a child, invited me into a school, or simply encouraged me along the way. Every message and every kind word means more than you know.

This is just the beginning.

I can’t wait to welcome you back to Underwatervania very soon.

See you in Part 2.
